26th July to date
26th - 28th July
Spent three days driving from the border to Vilanculos on the coast. Most of the road was good but it wouldnt be Africa if there werent some potholes along the way or no road at all!
28th July to 3rd August
Baobab Beach Backpackers
Taking it easy and enjoying being on the Indian ocean. There is a great bar and restaurant and more importantly people 😊
Lots of stuff to do, diving, snorkelling, kite surfing, horse riding.... and of course just lazing on the beach 😎
31st July
Day spent visiting the Bazaruto Archipelago and snorkelling in reef close by. We were also very lucky and saw dolphins.
1st August
Colin went off diving for the day while I lazed. He got to see huge amounts of fish, reef shark and elusive dugongs (sea cows).
We met two great couples - Fred & Gabby from London who are nearing the end of a six month trip through Asia and Africa and Mirjam and Joel from Switzerland who are on a months trip through Zimbabwe & Mozambique.
4th - 5th August
Mongorrulo Beach Lodge
Two days lazing on one of the most beautiful beaches we ever have been to. We were the only people in the campsite and beach was deserted.
6th August to 9th August
Fatimas Nest campsite - Tofo
A few days at this campsite on the coast. More snorkelling, diving and lazing to be done 😊
10th August - 15th August
Maria’s place - self catering apartment - Tofo
We liked Tofo so much that we decided to stay on and treated ourselves to a week in this lovely little apartment right on the beach - bliss!
Col is learning to be a surf and diving dude and Im being a beach bum 😂
We spent Sunday 11th on a Dhow visiting the nearby Pansy Island and Pig Island which was a peaceful and relaxing way to be on the sea. We were able to snorkel on the reef around Pansy Island and were introduced to the Chief and people of Pig Island. The chief is Eric and there are currently about 800 people living there. They are fishermen and sell what they catch on the mainland at Inhambane, Barra or Tofo.
16th August
Montego campsite - Xai-Xai
Overnight stay at Xai-Xai beach before heading off to Swaziland. Beautiful but incredibly windswept.
