Colin and Bea's Big Adventure

We arrive 5th June in Walvis Bay

The Namibian people are as lovely as we remember them from our visit 14 years ago.

6th June

We have spent the day in Swakopmund buying supplies having taken posession of our temporary home for the next four days as our main camper wasnt available until next Monday.

7th - 9th June

Three nights at Sossus Oasis Campsite to explore the amazing dunes at Sossuvlei.

Having crossed the Tropic of Capricorn and arrived in Sossusvlei yesterday,  we have spent today day visiting the Dunes and Deadvlei - the dunes and scenery are spectacular.  Our campsite feels like we are in the middle of nowhere but the facilities are great - there is even a small pool.

We decided to swap campsites for our third night to visit Namib-Naukluft Park which compared to Sossusvlei is very green and home to a wide range of animals including zebras, black rhinos, hyaena and baboons (which we had a close encounter with when we arrived!).

Soon after arriving we opened the van and made lunch. While munching our’s, one baboon stole the pork chops we’d bought for evening dinner. We dashed round the other side of the van to see the comotion. While there a second one stole a green pepper off our lunch table! Later we realised they had also taken a packet of fire lighters - not sure if they were going to eat them or if they’d learned to bbq! A well orgnised pincer raid, worthy of a scene in Planet of the Apes.

We have so far had the pleasure of encountering on our travels:  warthogs, baboons, lots of different deer which by the end of our travels we will know which is which, mongoose, bats and squirrels.

10th - 12th June

Camping at Weavers Rock Guest Farm, a working farm so we can spend time with the locals and get to see what life is like in Namibia.  We also get to go spend time with Cheetahs at a nearby sanctuary - heaven!

We spent today at the Waterberg Plateau which is home to an amazing array of animals.  We climbed to the top and were rewarded with fantastica views of the the land below. Definitely worth the effort.

13th June

Our last night in Namibia at West Nest Lodge before we go to Botswana on the next leg of our trip.
